The Last Ship
Monday 5 June 2023, during Gothenburg Anniversary Festival, a choir version of Sting’s musical The Last Ship will premier. 400 choir singers from all around West Sweden will be singing about community and the demise of a shipbuilding industry. The songs are set in Sting’s hometown Wallsend but are just as applicable on Gothenburg and its history of shipyards.
200 of the choir singers will be on stage, joined by some of Sweden’s most merited folk musicians and musical soloists Åsa Fång, Philip Jalmelid and Jacob Andréas. 200 choir singers will sing from audience seats, and the whole audience are welcome to sing along in some parts as well. Stina Wollter will keep it all together by sharing stories from Gothenburg’s local shipbuilding history.
The concert takes place Monday 5 June at 6.00pm-7.15pm in Frihamnen, Gothenburg, Sweden. It is part of the Gothenburg Anniversary Festival and is arranged by Göteborg & Co, the official tourism organisation of Gothenburg, together with Choir Centre West.
